DON WALLIS — ARTIST

Don draws slowly in a classical realist procedure until he gets a strong likeness; and then he paints with modern acrylic paints, building a well-developed monochromatic underpainting before he applies numerous glazes of color.

His popular recent 6th one-man show of drawings and paintings was at Big Sky Cafe in San Luis Obispo, Sept. — Oct. 2006. His portraiture records three of San Luis Obispo's poet laureates and hangs in the permanent collection at Linnaea's Cafe in S.L.O.

Although most of his subjects are friends, family and professional models, he does accept commissions for portraits and landscapes. However, he prefers people to pose for a minimum of three or more hours when he is required to paint them from the photographs he takes of them.
